A framework addressing the foundational question of consciousness.
The Knower Centred Model of Consciousness (KCM) proposes that the knower—the witnessing subject—is fundamental to reality. While existing theories explain processes within experience, they do not address why experience appears at all. KCM approaches this question by placing the knower at the centre of ontology.

Conceptual Framework
The Knower Centred Model of Consciousness (KCM) is a foundational framework that positions the knower—the witnessing subject—as the central principle in the structure of reality. KCM proposes an experience-first ontology, challenging matter-first and brain-first interpretations of consciousness. It integrates insights from non-dual philosophy, phenomenology, observer-centric physics, cognitive science, and theoretical neuroscience. The model argues that mind, matter, and world-structure emerge within consciousness, not outside it.
Typed Ontology
Contemporary science of consciousness explains the organization and accessibility of information but leaves unresolved a foundational question: for whom does any process or content appear? KCM addresses this gap by advancing a subject-first ontology in which the knower—the witnessing presence—is the necessary condition for the appearance of any world. The paper formalizes a minimal structural architecture of experience based on the knower–knowing–known triad and situates KCM among leading theories of consciousness.
Testable Predictions
Building on this triadic ontology, the paper derives a set of testable predictions that distinguish KCM from models that equate consciousness with structural complexity or information processing. KCM predicts that neural processes modulate experiential content rather than generate awareness, and that consciousness may persist even in minimal-content states. These predictions define empirical and conceptual pathways for evaluating the model across brain states, artificial systems, and observer-dependent descriptions.
Canonical Synthesis paper of KCM
This paper presents the unified formulation of KCM by integrating its conceptual framework, typed ontology, and empirical predictions into a single subject-first theory of consciousness.
